oops

hi,

I ran Drivercleaner3 Pro in safe mode to remove any remnants of ATI. I
checked everything that started with ATI and hit "Clean". This was on a WD
SATA-only hard drive and apparently Drivercleaner3 took the liberty of
removing the installation of the Serial ATA drivers (Si3112) as well, right
down to the last registry entry. I know this because I get to look at the
cleaning log from Drivercleaner3 from my brand new installation of Windows
XP sp2 on an IDE hard drive.
Needless to say Windows XP won't start on the SATA drive in any mode, just
the blue screen with a "stop error" [Stop: 0x0000007B (0xF789E528,
0xC0000034, etc...]. I can only access the SATA hard drive from the Windows
XP CD Recovery Console or look at the files it contains from my current
drive. I spent hours in Recovery console trying to copy the SATA driver
files back onto the drive but I lack the experience with dos to know how to
install the driver manually. Drivercleaner3 can reinstate everything it did
but only from Windows. So, yeah...

If anyone has run into this type of problem or has a solution please post
it.

A:\ is the floppy that contains driver for the SATA hard drive. I use this
with the Windows startup CD (F6) to install the driver for the non native
controller. Or, does the partition created by setup need to be converted
from FAT32 to NTFS first? Or...lmao

to see. I can honestly say that this is pretty unique or at least it's a
method of breaking your PC that I haven't yet managed to accomplish. I'd
suggest a repair installation which will keep your data, allow you to put
your SATA drivers back in place, and will mean you only have to do your
updates again normally.

Thanks for the reply. Thats what I did, including the latest updates
and running sfc, but in "setuperr.log" in the Windows folder there was
some non-fatal errors that occured during setup. Explorer.exe was
showing the windows folder as empty but I think I fixed that. WMI is
having network problems, msinfo32 isn't working and I expect to see
other failures as time goes on. I read something about the possibility
of registry corruption with the "in-place repair".

You did do a repair installation? And at that time you used the SATA drivers
disk? As for your Event ID 63 with a source of WinMgmt you can look he

That's not a whole lot of information and it doesn't really give much in the
way of an answer. If you're still having SATA issues I'd really recommend
that you take the questions still remaining to the
microsoft.public.windowsxp.hardware group for more information. (I'd also
recommend not using automated registry cleaners in the future and trying
last known good configuration before you try too many other things when it's
a registry error.)
