I just ran across what you are saying about Chrome. I installed it on my
computer some years ago but uninstalled it because it was inferior to
Firefox.

However, even though it is not on the computer when When I use Open With
to open a file Chrome is given as an option.

I don't know how to remove it from the Open With menu, but I never use
Open With. It is frustrating that it was not removed with the uninstall.

PS: If you select Chrome from the Open With option, it bounces back as
Chrome is not present.

I can't even find the damn thing to remove it. Agent Ransack gives me the
location but it's "hidden or invisable" when I go to Windows Explorer. It's
like a freakin' virus. And what really ****es me off is I didn't install it.
I came bundled with Malwarebytes. The irony.....

Chrome is not likely to be an App.

*******

In a command prompt window, you "cd" to the place holding
chrome.7z (approx 150MB) and setup.exe (approx 1MB).

cd /d C:\path\to\these\files

if a chromium installation:

setup.exe --uninstall

if a chrome installation:

setup.exe --uninstall --multi-install --chrome --system-level

The Command Prompt says none of these are recognized. Agent Ransack finds
where it's hidden but it doesn't show when I look there.

You would need to use the equivalent of "about:" to figure
out what you've got. I used to think that only Chrome was
promoted for a dollar a copy, as "drive-by installs". But
someone posted one day, that they'd received a copy of
Chromium that way. So I cannot make an assumption about
what you got, and you'll have to do your best to get the
program to admit its identity.

I think it came with Malwarebytes.

The URL bar accepts chrome:// and if you type that
much of it, it will show you the main URL value to
get to a menu of all the rest of the chrome:// shortcuts.

Which URL bar? What do you mean?

If you have a decent search program, like Agent Ransack
or Everything.exe , you should be able to search for
chrome.7z and find the install archive.

Installation of Google products, leaves a couple "updater"
services. These will not uninstall until the last Google
product is removed. However, we know these don't really
uninstall at all, and they just sit there. That will be
a separate little project for you :-) As you can see in
this article, it's a new hobby for you. I don't know
if there is a "proper, Google certified" way to do this
or not.

https://www.askvg.com/how-to-remove-...google-chrome/

None of that worked. It doesn't show up anywhere but in Agent Ransack

When Chrome is open, there's a bar where you type the
web site name. Instead of typing a website name in it,
start to type "chrome://" as that value gives access
to chrome internal functions. I think one of them for
example is chrome://flags .

It's good that you've given a potential source of the
drive by. Now I can simulate it. Well, I tried it,
and the current Malwarebytes (ver.3) has no drive-by.

*******

Chrome removal is here, but I can promise you it's
the lamest of instructions.

https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95319?hl=en

In Windows 10, you may not see a Control Panel.

Right-click Start and find the Run box. Type "control.exe"
into it, as that's the program that opens the Control Panel.

Find Programs and Features.

Look through the list. Instead of just "Chrome", look
for "Google Chrome" or the like. You can probably find
the uninstall via that route, if you believe the
above web page.

But if you could find the "chrome.7z" and the "setup.exe"
next to it, those provide the ingredients for its uninstallation.
If for some reason it's not registered in Programs and Features,
you can still get it from the command line.

Perhaps you could open "Settings" and in the Find a setting box type:
File explorer options

When the File Explorer Options box appears, click the View tab and
make these changes:

1. Click Show hidden files, folders and drives

2. Click Show all folders

Click OK.

When installing programs, I would advise not to use the "Default"
option. Instead, select the "Custom" option.

That should give you the chance to remove the tick from those boxes
that offer "bonus" software

There is no MS icon on the desktop. There are no dots and bars. On my
version of W-10 it's Start/Programs.

The MS Icon is the white square with the dark cross in the on the left
end of the taskbar.

The icon that I discribed as four "dots with a bar" is the third icon
from the top on the left side of the windows 10 native start screen,

Paint is in Windows accessories

You can use the free version of Agent Ransack, to make it
easier to find the files you're looking for. That will tell
you that yes, there is a notepad.exe on the machine. It's not
as fast as Everything.exe, but it's still good.

It's not as fast as Everything when searching for file names. But It's
much faster than Everything, when searching for content in files,
since Everything can't do that.

That's why I use both of them. Sometimes I want one kind of search,
sometimes the other.

Yep! That's where you have to find it now. Why these dumb changes I'll
never know. A new PC person wouldn't know it existed.

That's probably exactly what MS wanted --- maybe more folks would
buy Office!

Yep, live and learn. I had already done that. I have to give up on removing
Chrome as it somehow ramains invisable.
