Getting rid of Chrome and Cortina. Where is notepad?

Getting rid of Chrome and Cortina. Where is notepad?

It had to have been installed with something I downloaded. Also, where is Notepad? Has that been removed from W-10? I don't understand why there is so much bad info online when seeking help with these things. I get better advice here. TIA Chrome is not likely to be an App. https://www.theverge.com/2017/12/19/...-download-link ******* In a command prompt window, you "cd" to the place holding chrome.7z (approx 150MB) and setup.exe (approx 1MB). cd /d C:\path\to\these\files if a chromium installation: setup.exe --uninstall if a chrome installation: setup.exe --uninstall --multi-install --chrome --system-level The Command Prompt says none of these are recognized. Agent Ransack finds where it's hidden but it doesn't show when I look there. You would need to use the equivalent of "about:" to figure out what you've got. I used to think that only Chrome was promoted for a dollar a copy, as "drive-by installs". But someone posted one day, that they'd received a copy of Chromium that way. So I cannot make an assumption about what you got, and you'll have to do your best to get the program to admit its identity. I think it came with Malwarebytes. The URL bar accepts chrome:// and if you type that much of it, it will show you the main URL value to get to a menu of all the rest of the chrome:// shortcuts. Which URL bar? What do you mean? If you have a decent search program, like Agent Ransack or Everything.exe , you should be able to search for chrome.7z and find the install archive. Installation of Google products, leaves a couple "updater" services. These will not uninstall until the last Google product is removed. However, we know these don't really uninstall at all, and they just sit there. That will be a separate little project for you :-) As you can see in this article, it's a new hobby for you. I don't know if there is a "proper, Google certified" way to do this or not. https://www.askvg.com/how-to-remove-...google-chrome/ None of that worked. It doesn't show up anywhere but in Agent Ransack The URL bar accepts chrome:// and if you type that much of it, it will show you the main URL value to get to a menu of all the rest of the chrome:// shortcuts. Which URL bar? What do you mean? When Chrome is open, there's a bar where you type the web site name. Instead of typing a website name in it, start to type "chrome://" as that value gives access to chrome internal functions. I think one of them for example is chrome://flags . It's good that you've given a potential source of the drive by. Now I can simulate it. Well, I tried it, and the current Malwarebytes (ver.3) has no drive-by. ******* Chrome removal is here, but I can promise you it's the lamest of instructions. https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95319?hl=en In Windows 10, you may not see a Control Panel. Right-click Start and find the Run box. Type "control.exe" into it, as that's the program that opens the Control Panel. Find Programs and Features. Look through the list. Instead of just "Chrome", look for "Google Chrome" or the like. You can probably find the uninstall via that route, if you believe the above web page. But if you could find the "chrome.7z" and the "setup.exe" next to it, those provide the ingredients for its uninstallation. If for some reason it's not registered in Programs and Features, you can still get it from the command line. Paul |

The irony..... When installing programs, I would advise not to use the "Default" option. Instead, select the "Custom" option. That should give you the chance to remove the tick from those boxes that offer "bonus" software HTH |

Getting rid of Chrome and Cortina. Where is notepad?

news You can use the free version of Agent Ransack, to make it easier to find the files you're looking for. That will tell you that yes, there is a notepad.exe on the machine. It's not as fast as Everything.exe, but it's still good. It's not as fast as Everything when searching for file names. But It's much faster than Everything, when searching for content in files, since Everything can't do that. That's why I use both of them. Sometimes I want one kind of search, sometimes the other. |
