Default Shut off Windoes Shell and .....

I shut off Windoes Shell and can't turn it back on. How is this done in
W-8? I hate the W-8 interface. How do I even find now with Shell shut off?
PC is a HP Envy laptop.

Wording this another way, you have a laptop with touchscreen,
which is capable of running in Tablet Mode.

Now, you want to bring back the traditional Windows
Desktop mode of operation.

Attempts to find this on the usual sites, didn't seem to
work for me. This is as close as I got.

If you're on Windows 8, the missing "X" in the corner of apps
can be replaced by pressing alt-F4 on the keyboard, while
the "window has focus". If you press alt-F4 while the
desktop surface has the focus, that will bring up the
shutdown menu.

On Windows 8.1, Apps have an X in the corner, so you no longer
need alt-F4 as a "crutch".

I did it the easy way and just dowloaded and reinstalled it again.
