The microbes are getting used to the alcohol, and
are now 10x less affected by those gels, than they
used to be. They're becoming resistant.

Some day, those gels will be completely discontinued.

Just like the idiots who put triclosan in toothpaste,
will someday regret it. Someday.

I've often thought I should start a sleep clinic.

I have the cure for insomnia and that is exercise
to exhaustion and adequate hydration.

The only reason you have a difficult time sleeping
is:

1) you are not tired enough

2) you borked your natural circadian rhythm.

3) you're dependent on sleep prescription drugs.

In my sleep clinic I would:

1) work my clients to exhaustion

2) force their schedules to comply with a natural circadian rhythm.

3) deny them their prescription sleep drugs.

End of problem and I get rich.

I'm not disagreeing with you. Let's just say for the moment that
whatever "it" is, beyond our ability to make an analog of it in our
minds, "it" is "there" in all of its nothingness which we have an
incomplete grasp of. Can we trust what we seem to sense? This is the
most important question. I'm thinking of Larry Niven's short story,
"Mistake".

To the ancient Greeks, nothingness was a vacuum. A place where no
matter or "stuff" was. But, modern science demonstrates that even in
the nothingness or vacuum of the space between solar systems or
between interstellar matter itself the "space" has properties that can
be measured. Some suggest that subatomic particles come into and out
of existance continuously in space so there is no place where "true
nothingness" exists accounting for "dark matter" or "dark energy". I
don't know for certain. Hoiw can it be proved that the opposite of
'something' which we can call 'nothing' exists or if it doesn't exist
then by that definition it truly 'is'.. not there or here or anywhere?

I read a science fiction book a couple years ago
where it described a future human civilization that
was so advanced that they mastered time travel
backwards. They determined that time travel
into the future was impossible since there is
no future existing - only the concept of future.

This happened millions of years into what would
be our future.

So they came back billions of years and *arranged*
things so that matter (stars, planets, etc.) from the
future, via constructed wormholes through space
and time, was sent back to their past over a period
of billions of years so that it caused the universe to
stop expanding and they had it figured out that not
only would the universe stop expanding but neither
would it contract. It remained static. In this fashion the
humans assured themselves an infinite amount
of time and almost as much space in which to live by
moving themselves back through the worm holes to
the past where matter was spontaneously appearing
in the universe until it was stabilized.

They had long since conquered death.

So what they did is hasten the demise of their future
universe, which was expanding into an empty, cold,
uninhabitable space and traded it for a present
universe that would be inhabitable forever.

The context is a person who has lost fluids, thanks to diarrhea.
Eating salt makes you drink water.

https://nutritionandmetabolism.biome.../1743-7075-6-9

"Drinks designed for use in both ORS (oral rehydration solutions)
and sports nutrition contain a mixture of carbohydrate and electrolytes,
with the main electrolyte being sodium."

"More recent research has suggested that sodium content
may not be as important a factor as carbohydrate"

"The absorption of glucose by SGLT1 in the small intestine is
directly coupled with the absorption of 2 sodium molecules
and approximately 300 water molecules"

So while rehydration may involve packets of glucose and salt,
it looks like I was "staring at the wrong one". The glucose
does most of the work.
