a week or so to get around to dumping it (it got such rave reviews I wanted

but I was still using XP and realized that someday I'd have to move on & OE
would no longer be an option. I did come to terms with WLM2009, still under
XP -- but I've been suddenly catapulted into W7 along with WLM 2011 & it's
all giving me fits & vapours.

So go back to WLM 2009 if you liked it better. Anything is better than
what you're using now.

I had to edit your post just to be able to reply to you.

Pegasus is 100% totally compatible, I use it with Win7 Ultimate 64 and
used it with Win7 Home Premium 64 bit.

What problems are you having? You DID RTFM didn't you and installed in
somewhere other than the default Program Files (X86) folder?

Where is the FM for Thunderbird? Its "Help" system is one of the biggest
barriers tho' I have learned to use it some. In newsgroups especially,
even if I am an inveterate mouser, I find ALT-vea: View all and ALT-veu:
View unread rather useful. It took me a while to find the toggle m for
mark read/unread but it's also a well-used command.

stick

How does Forte handle Html mail and Unicode now a days ?

One hopes that it rejects them, since Usenet is a plain-text medium.

Do not post to USENET with WLM2011,
====================================

OK so I (maybe) messed up separating quotes from my reply.
I did try. I just wasn't good enough for you, or you didn't like --
or didn't understand -- the way I did it.

You might not be aware of a big problem with your quoting style.
The way your newsreader is doing it, when someone else follows
up, it looks like you *said* what you actually only quoted.

The problem is that Windows Live Mail 2011 (version 15) has a
quoting style that is completely broken. Unfortunately that poses
a painful choice to you: either fix every quote manually, or get
a real newsreader such as Gravity, Xananews, and Forte Agent (to
mention some that come to mind at the moment). OR, if you really
want WLM, some say that WLM 14 will serve; see "SC Tom" below.

update 2011-04-02: I've seen a newsgroup posting claiming you
can un-break WLM 15 by installing and using an Autohotkey script:
http://www.dusko-lolic.from.hr/wlmquote/

Thanks for your consideration!

That *is* the problem -- it's a program, and it can't be installed in
the standard Windows 7 location for programs.

That's not the only problem, of course. The editor is annoying, and
there were plenty of other problems too. The incompatibility with
Windows 7 was the last straw for me.

Yes, Windows Live Mail. It's crap.

I tried outlook 2001, but found it bulky and a lot
of functions I'd never would use. I just want a simple Microsoft email
program like outlook express 6 TIA

Thunderbird.

Yes, I agree entirely with the assessment of WLM, which I used for a
total of a week when I got Windows 7. I switched to Thunderbird for
email and news groups and currently am fairly satisfied.

Since I didn't like TB, I guess it's a matter of using the
personally-to-me-least-unlikeable program. :-)

I have also been using Outlook for things I want to sync with on my
phone --
where I do *not* *NOT* want everything I have in my general
mail/contacts/etc. IOW I use Outlook for my "mobile" stuff. At least, I was
doing that in XP, I haven't yet started doing it in W7 (until I get my
old computer back w/ the backup files I don't want to start mucking with
data that I'd then have to coordinate, yuck!)
bj

If you want to use WLM for e-mail, that's fine and dandy, but please use
something else for newsgroups. At least use something that quotes
previous text properly if you don't feel like manually correcting what
WLM screws up.

In the old days yes, now a days a lot of people post in html,
and if we are going to survive we might need to allow it.
There is advantages to that format as well.

But my question was aimed at the e-mail part of the program
when I used it many years ago it couldn't handle html.

I put Thunderbird on this XP desktop to try it out and I absolutely
DETESTED it. I am a dyed in the wool OE user of some 14 years and for
some strange reason, when I imported my email into T-bird, I had
300,000 kb's showing up in the Inbox according to Windows Explorer, but
not showing up in the program itself.

And I couldn't find any way to hide the read messages.......that really
ticked me off. So I uninstalled it and guess I will go with just web
mail on my laptop. And use this computer for news groups.

Or perhaps one of you kind souls can tell me how to get rid of the WLM
2011 prog and install the older one. I rather like Windows 7 and just
want to get it into *familiar mode*.

Other question........totally different. If I install that SourceForge
prog which changes Startup and Windows Explorer to XP style, is it
removeable in case I have to??? I much prefer the XP style.

Thanks.........Heather (aka Figgs)

Believe me when I say that Agent is by far, the best reader.
Even the earlier versions as far back as1.xx..... were highly praised.
I still have ver. 2.0 on another box....

news.mozilla.org, it's a private server, you'll need to set up your
newsreader for that server, then look for the group:

It's not incompatible, regardless of your opinion.
