Why Linux Sucks- 2020 Version

Ah yes, and their Tube type Amps are still some of the best . no, they very definitely aren't. there are much better amps, and ones that last a lot longer too. the so called 'warmth' from tube/valve amps is distortion. those who want that type of distortion can add it back if they prefer, but it's incorrect to claim the presence of distortion is better. |

I have built Preamps and power amps of both types and prefer the solid state ones hands down. Rene |

Yup. But still works out well to have "Macs". -- Personal attacks from those who troll show their own insecurity. Probably it is what psychologists call " Self-fulfilling prophecy " on your part so I suggest take this crap to your Linux Junk newsgroup as Windows has what you call some sort of font bug. Surely, you don't want to hang out with Windows users who have some sort of bug as you have managed to diagnose them from your basement apartment window. The funny part is he is using slrn which is a throwback to the 1970's and a DEC VT100 terminal. Every option, including colors, are controlled by a text configuration file .slrnrc. So if you want to change the color of the text for example you need to edit the file and add something like CYAN to it, then save, restart slrn, rinse and repeat 100 times until you find a combination you like. You should know about obsolete technology, I mean you should, but you don't. after all you're using it. Agent is stuck in the 90s with no unicode support, and a developer who seems to have quit 6 years ago after 14+ years of failing to implement any sort of unicode support. whereas SLRN is still being maintained, Anyway back to your other mistakes above. DEC VT100 terminal doesn't do CYAN, that would be a VT200. but I'm not using that either. Also slrn needs a helper application like slrnpull or leafnode to read offline. Otherwise it downloads one article at a time as you read them. Very slow, especially considering it's a cli application. yeah, on-line reading is slow, so I don't do that... reading from a local spool is plenty fast. Linux worshipers wear slrn like some badge of intelligence because they were able to configure and use it. I use it becase it's fast and does what I want. -- Jasen. |

By Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols for Linux and Open Source | June 12, 2019 -- 20:30 GMT (21:30 BST) | Topic: Enterprise Software (...) My opinion: CERN should have done this many years ago...at least this is what I did in my dental office 23 years ago: Staroffice/Openoffice/Libreoffice instead of Microsoft Office. About 3 years ago I switched from Outlook 2002 (with Public Share Folder, http://www.publicshareware.de/) to EssentialPIM Pro Business for my office (besides Thunderbird for myself and more private things) as a groupware, for task and quality management. I like Windows as the most stable platform for programmers. APIs are supported for decades, which means, that usually old software will run. But as a company Microsoft often was too greedy, e. g. stopping their old program versions from running on newer versions of Windows. With third party software this happens less often. And the uncontrollable data collection of Windows has become a legal nightmare in germany. That alone would be reason enough to switch to Linux. Alas, it would be too expensive (for me), and many important programs are still not available for Linux (and never will, they will arrive as web apps only). But Windows is certainly loosing reputation and market share for this reason. Now Microsoft gives away Windows 10 Professional almost for free (about 15 USD in germany, if you search a bit). The reason is easy to see: Microsoft sees its future in paid web apps and needs to keep up Windows market share as a path to these cloud apps. Microsoft has alreay lost the school market in the US to Google/Chrome OS. Which means that the next generation does not know much about Windows nor does it need to know much. Chrome OS seems to be the best platform for web apps at the moment. If you have an old, slow PC, test Cloudready, a Chrome OS for PC (free for personal use, https://www.neverware.com/). The old hardware will be faster than with Windows or Linux. Regards M. |

David wrote: I've looked here briefly https://mxlinux.org/mx19-features/ Perhaps I'll have a play one day when it's raining! ;-) Test Cloudready instead. ;-) You already know how Linux is in principle. MX 19 is more polished (and rock solid on my hardware and in the VM), but the basic problems of all linux distributions remain: inconsistent GUI and keyboard shortcuts for different programs, old software versions in the repos, abandoned or only slowly developing software for end users, too often with annoying bugs or too much configuration (in the terminal) needed. Cloudready is basically Chrome OS. And if web apps are enough for you, it is a completely different experience of computing. No more annoying updates, fastest booting, secure out of the box. And most better web apps sync easily with their apps on Android or iOS. For me most impressive in the last year: Quire, https://quire.io/. So I think Cloudready/Chrome OS is the much better upgrade path for a Mac user than Linux: Ditch Your Mac for a Chromebook, Save Money and Watch as Life Goes On: My Experience as a (Somewhat) Power User https://qz.com/1314197/you-dont-need-a-mac-laptop/ CLOUDTOPS You don’t need a Mac laptop Regards M. P. S.: I start liking Claws Mail on MX19 for Usenet (installed and configured within minutes)..., and it's available for Windows: https://www.claws-mail.org/win32/, and for Mac, but this would be too much for me: https://www.claws-mail.org/faq/index...on_Mac_OS_X.3F On Cloudready Usenet would start with a web interface. It seems that Google does not list alt.comp.os.windows-10, but here it is: https://www.novabbs.com/index.php?t=thread&frm_id=324& Or this Add-in for Chrome, but needs another server in your LAN, NZBGet: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...hpkdkaomlloghm Newer hardware for Chrome OS supports the Google Play Store, which means Android apps.
