Wesley,
Unable to get pc to go into Safe Mode. At startup, it gives me the option to go into regular safe mode or with networking or command prompt. Irregardless of selection, it starts to load various drivers and freezes at ivicd.sys. Man, this pc is just over a month old and I just don't understand how my drive could lock up like this. You may have to do a repair from the install CD, check with system
vendor for method of doing "nondestructive" repair install. Perry wrote: I actually had already done that prior to posting and came up with nothing. But that is the very last file it stops at tho. Startup problem
Hello prhld, I'm having the same problem as you by the sounds of it. In a failed safe mode boot I reach *ivicd.sys* and get no further. My PC comprises of the ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe, AMD 64x 4200 and this all began when I swapped my ATI x600 for a XFX 7600GT. When I tried to boot it would hang on the loading splash screen. I swapped the card back to the ATI x600 but it still wouldn't boot. I tried various system check points but none fixed the problem. I was able to boot into Safe mode without fail so I tried removing software, drivers I though may have corrupted or something... nothing. Sometime later I lost the ability to boot into safe mode but here I could see where it stopped *ivicd.sys*. Whether that is significant I don't know. The weird thing is, I reinstalled XP cos my files are on another partition so it wasn't such a big deal. It got going fine, I put SP2 on restarted then installed all the main drivers and on the next restart I got the same prob! I'm now concerened this may be hardware... my pc is only 6mnths old. Please let me know if u find anything out. I have more tests do do and will do likewise. Startup problem
Hope you got this issue resolved. I recently had this problem - the system would boot fine up to ivicd.sys, then black screen and restart. Safe mode wouldn't work at all, so I ended up booting to the CD, getting to the repair console, navigating to c:\windows\windows32\drivers\ and renamed the file ivicd.sys to ivicd.sys.old. I rebooted, went in to safe mode, uninstalled the Intervideo suite (I never used it), booted up again and I was good to go. FWIW, I'm running XP Media Center Edition and had installed the WinDVD Suite, which included Photo Album 1.0, DVD Copy 2.5, WinDVD Creator 2 and Disc Master 2.5. -- johna ------------------------------------------------------------------------ johna's Profile: http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/...ml?userid=2588 View this thread: http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/...phtml?t=121878 |
