First I have a question for you. Why do you think you have a
virus? Perhaps
you do not? What behavior is your computer showing that makes you
believe
you have a virus and when did this behavior start? Did you install or
unistall any programs? Did you delete any files? You could have
spyware and
or malware or you may need to do some maintenance on your
computer. If you
want I can walk you through the maintenance steps for Windows XP but
it may
not solve your problem if you truly have a virus; however if you
dont have a
virus and your computer has slowed down considerably this may help.
As far as
virus removal I really think your best option is to pay a technican
so they
can do a virus removal thoroughly whether it be to take it to a shop
or have
a tech come to your home. I only know a little about virus
removal. It can
be difficult for certain reasons and complicated. You need to know
what kind
of virus you have and how deep the infection is. Viruses hide in
deep files
the registry and hidden files and subfolders you cant see or access
on your
computer, hence complete removal takes a good deal of technical
experstise. If a reinstallation of Windows is needed then that is
way beyond my expertise
and you would be wise to fork out money to have it done. I hope
this has
been helpful. Get back to me and answer my questions we will go
from there.

Well my friend I wish I had better news for you in regards to your
question
but I do not. However I will provide you two options that fit
your criteria:
1. You can go towww.symantec.comandfor a fee based service they will
scan your entire computer for viruses and remove them or 2. call
Microsft at
800-microsoft and ask for technical support and tell them you have
a virus
and they will direct you to the security team of tech support.
They will
charge you about $60 dollars. Both these options require no
downloading and
no taking it in to a shop but cost money. You may want to get a
quote from a
technician to see if you can get virus removal cheaper. Depending
on what
virus you have you may need to reinstall Windows which is a major
pain in the
ass, but might be neccessary. In that case a technician is
probably your
best option. I hope this has been helpful. If you want to know
how to
dispose of the virus yourself respond and I will see what I can do
for you
but it would require downloading of programs. Merry Christmas and
best

I'll ask this question then. How do computer repair shops remove a
virus?

Now the virus isn,t on the computer I'm typing on which is a laptop,
but it's on a desktop computer a windows xp-service pack 3. You ask
"How do you know you have a virus"? It popped up many boxes at once to
download antivirus2009. I can't get on the internet with it now or
even run my Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware and sometimes have a hard time
clicking even the start menu-but I dont have to worry about the
inability to click now because the monitor won't work

James
PS: If you leave a computer unplugged for 5 days, will that get rid of
a virus? We had a computer with a threat on it and after it was
unplugged for several days then plugged back in-the threat was gone.

Check this link.

http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-antivirus-2009.html

It give the services that need to be stopped, the reg keys to be removed
and such. Then you should be able to get run Malwarebytes and make
sure it's gone.

Now that was stupid LOL You just said you couldn't get on the net.
Try this

Antivirus 2009 manual removal:
Kill processes:
av2009.exe av2009[1].exe AV2009Install.exe Antivirus2009.exe

Delete registry values:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Run\1535894364295587050450837002573 9
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Antivirus
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run\”Antivirus”
= “%ProgramFiles%\Antivirus 2009\Antvrs.exe”
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Antivirus

Unregister DLLs:
shlwapi.dll wininet.dll

Delete files:
av2009.exe av2009install.exe av2009install_0011.exe av2009[1].exe
Antivirus2009.exe ieupdates.exe scui.cpl %program_files%\\antivirus
2009\\av2009.exe %startmenu%\\antivirus 2009\\antivirus 2009.lnk
%startmenu%\\antivirus 2009\\uninstall antivirus 2009.lnk winsrc.dll
%desktopdirectory%\\antivirus 2009.lnk winsrc.dll ieupdates.exe
av2009install_0011.exe av2009install.exe %program_files%\\antivirus
2009\\av2009.exe

Delete directories:
C:\Program Files\Antivirus 2009

Having a bad day today. Forgot to give the actual link I where I copied
that info. Also IIRC when I had to deal with AV2008 once we stopped the
process we were are to get on the net, but I'm going from memory.

Well I have troubleshooted this to the best of my ability. You are getting
pop ups which is one issue and then your software wont work which is another
issue and add to that if I am correct the monitor will no longer work.
Unplugging the computer will have no affect on your situation. I am not a
technician, just a guy with some expertise trying to help out. So there are
three issues we have now identified. As much as you do not want to shell out
any money or go to a repair shop given the complexity of the problem and the
fact that you have multiple issues which could be caused by a numbeer of
things including a virus and or spyware malware and Oh I forgot you cannot
connect so that is four issuess; Take your computer to a repair shop and pay
them whatever they want. It is the easiest solution.
Best regards,
Kaja

try defragmenting your drives. click on start--all
programs--accessories--system tools-- disk defragmentar. once here
click
on your local disk which is c: and click defragment at the bottom. this
should sort it out. Or, press ctrl+alt+del and open task manager. now
click
on processes and end any process that ends with .dll.(note: u may damage
ur
pc if u end the wrong process)

Resoundingly splendid advice! Surprised you didn't go along with the "leave
your computer turned off for five days" notion too, as a last resort.

Sheesh.

James - ignore the above about defragmenting and killing processes. Just try
the other steps detailed earlier, printing from your net-connected machine
as necessary.

What in hell are you talking about? Defrag will do absolutely nothing
for the problem under discussion. And your Task Manager advice is
downright silly, not to mention useless. Good grief! Did you reply to
the right thread here?

Use the good computer to go to this Web page:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/malw...antivirus-2009

If that doesn't work, you will need expert guided help. Go back to
Malke's post and see her links; all the information you need is there.

Well....the computer is in the repair shop now, and they say they
don't know what is wrong with it.What I was thinking was---can't they
just reinstall windows xp? I know I have did that before, for I have a
windoxs xp reinstallment disc and a drivers and utilities disc.

Since you already know what is wrong with it (it has been infected by
Antivirus 2009 malware), if they are telling you that "they don't know
what is wrong with it," I would be concerned that they have no idea what
they are doing.

They can remove the infection. Or they can choose to reinstall Windows.
You are paying them to make the decision for you. I'm not quite sure I
understand your question.

At any rate, your task is now to learn safe hex. Once you learn to use
your PC in a safe manner, you will dramatically decrease your chances of
contracting malware. See:
