Microsoft Solitaire collection
Haven't played solitaire for a long time, so when someone mentioned it
in this NG recently I decided to play a game or two. I clicked on it's title in the menu and it opened to it's home page, and a few seconds later it closed and left me on the desktop, tried a few more times with the same results, stays open for 3 seconds then dumps me back to the desktop. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled a fresh copy from the Microsoft store, tried again with the same results, This is not very important cause I seldom play Solitaire, but does anyone have any ideas as to why, Just mostly curious I always want to know why things happen. :-) Windows 10 Version 1903 18362.418 Rene |

Since Microsoft's Solitaire pack is adware, I got rid of it. It survived in my Win10 install just a little longer than Candy Crush Saga which got removed immediately during after-install cleanup. |

Rene What I did was to delete the versions of the games that came with Windows-10 and visited the web site at; https://winaero.com/blog/get-windows...or-windows-10/ where you can download versions of the Windows-7 games. The games have been updated to work properly on Windows 10. Microsoft keeps trying to kill these games every couple of years during a "Major" update so keep the install program safely on a flash drive for later use if needed. As a result of Microsoft's efforts there are a couple of versions of the installer floating around as "fixes" were done to thwart Microsoft's war on advertisement free games. Be sure to download the latest version only from the winearo.com web site to have the latest installer program. I personally use the Solitaire game almost daily and my nephews like to play some of the other games. The installer program lets you pick and choose which games you install so you don't have to install the games you might not have not have an interest in. |

https://winaero.com/blog/get-windows...or-windows-10/ Out of the first 10 in that list (excluding the ones that were "not available" at the Store), only 1 was free. The others were "Free+" which means they are adware. Sad how the definition of free has gotten abused meaning free to initially get but delivers ads as the cost, so they really aren't free. The vast majority of "free" apps at Microsoft's Store (and Google's Play Store) are adware. It is a surprise when you find a "free" app that really is free, including free of ads. |

That sounds like a good idea. I haven't and wouldn't touch the Windows Store with a 10 foot pole (until maybe someday I am dreadfully confined to a smartphone or tablet). I might have accidentally used the new paint program, but that's it. I pity people who post comments to YouTube from a smartphone. It's working on my Windows 10 64 bit, not sure but mine has Xbox installed as well, it seems to need this to run. The one that ****es me off is Windows Ultimate Word Games, I've managed to complete all the Daily Challenges for the last couple of years but was on holiday at the end of October, came home and November had started with no way of completing October. That sounds like a good idea. Yes, I agree. I'm not big on computer games in general, but comparing the Windows 7 games with the Windows 10 games, as far as I'm concerned, the Windows 7 games are far and away the better ones. I haven't and wouldn't touch the Windows Store with a 10 foot pole I haven't either, but that's because there's nothing there I know I want. I have nothing against its being a Windows store. What do you have against it. (until maybe someday I am dreadfully confined to a smartphone or tablet). Are you shrinking very quickly? If so, that day may come soon. I might have accidentally used the new paint program, but that's it. I pity people who post comments to YouTube from a smartphone. Using a smartphone for computing and the Internet would be like wearing a straitjacket. I don't agree. I also greatly prefer to use my desktop computer, but I use my smart phone when I travel. It's a lot more convenient than carrying a laptop, which I used to do. -- Ken |

The Windows 7 versions are perfect for this, the Windows Store versions are just slightly too elaborate for a trivially quick game. So good on WinAero.
