Default Hard drive problems after win 2k install

Hello,
I was running windows 2K proffesional and just decided to
upgrade to XP-Pro. I have a secondary hard drive I use
for backup files and reinstall information which I had
specific permissions set on thru win2K. Whenver I
reinstalled win2K pro I would have to go into the drive
settings and reset access to it, so the "new" owner of
the computer could access it. Apparently every fresh
install it thought the drive had changed hands. Well now
that i've switched to XP the options for setting drive
permissions no longer exist in any form I can recognize.
The drive is there, and working and I can see the file
structure through the computer managment app but every
time I attempt to access D:\ I get a "D:\ is not
accessible" message. This is the same problem I had in
2K but no I can't seem to find a way to give myself
access to the old drive anymore????

Any help is GREATLY appreciated,
Aaron
