Default RasMan & NDISWAN problem

I recently encountered an error which has stopped my dial
up networking from working completely.

Originally the RasMan would not start, which meant every
time I tried to use the Modem, the system would indicate
the modem was busy.

I ended up performing a complete XP repair install,
followed by installation of SP1.

After this the modem can dial, however when it starts to
authenticate, it hangs up, and indicates Error 6: Handle is
invalid.

I have tried resetting the TCP/IP protocol using the netsh
int ip reset command, as well as any other relevant
knowledge base article I could find.

The Event log still indicates that RasMan failed to start
because NDISWAN could not be opened.

Before I completely wipe my HD and reinstall, is there
anything else I can try?

Regards,
Dave
