Default Removing Windows 2000 after installing XP

Hi,
I just installed windows XP professional on an older PC
that used to have Windows 2000 professional. Now I have
both versions on there so when I start the computer I
have to select one operating system.

How do I uninstall windows 2000 - without having the
original disk (which is long gone by now)? I'm sure
having both 2000 and XP on the computer is slowing it way
down.

Thanks a lot!

Your computer is probably running slow because you installed
Windows XP in the same partition Windows 2000 was installed in.
I would suggest starting over and perform a "clean install" of
Windows XP.

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

NOTE: It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except the monitor, mouse and keyboard, before installing XP.

NOTE: If you have an internal Zip Drive installed, physically disconnect the
EIDE and power cable to it before proceeding, otherwise your main
hard drive may not be assigned the customary C: drive letter.
After installing Windows XP, you may then reconnect it.

1. Open your BIOS and set your "CD Drive as the first bootable device".

2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.

3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.

4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete all the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

6. == Immediately after installing Windows XP, turn on XP's Firewall.

7. After Windows XP is installed, download Service Pack 2 and install:

Windows XP Service Pack 2 - Direct Download

8. After installing Service Pack 2, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.

9. If you happen to run into any installation difficulties, use the following resources:

Note: Before installing Windows XP, you can easily make a "slipstreamed
version" of Windows XP with SP2 already integrated.

Either one of the following utilities makes slipstreaming
(integrating) SP2 into Windows XP a breeze:

Default Removing Windows 2000 after installing XP

I have a question along the same lines: I got a great deal
on my old T-23 laptop from work when they upgraded me. It
has Win2000 Professional. I want to wipe the drive and
install XP Home or Pro, as I have an XP wireless network
at home and Win2000 does not play nicely with XP. Also,
the Win2K image on the laptop is still full of funky
security and firewall stuff that I can't get rid of.
Should I do an Upgrade to XP Pro, or should I f-disc the
sucker and do a low-level format, then do a full install
of XP?

Any advice appreciated.
