The 8.1 Pro Pack which upgraded Windows 8 to 8 Pro or 8 Pro with Media
Center was discontinued in the fall of 2015.

The Pro Pack is in extremely limited supply having been discontinued from
replenishing 3rd party inventory for over a year.

If you can find it, a few sources might be available by searching using
Google or Bing. The pricing should be around $100.

Retail 8.1 Pro may be easier to purchase and possibly from more reputable
sources though the price(e.g. Newegg.com) is about 30-40% % higher($140) for
OEM 8.1 Pro edition(clean install required, not for upgrading from Home to
Pro) and twice as much($200) for the retail 8.1 Pro(capable of use as
upgrade media).

Good luck on your quest.

See Winston's reply, but before you buy it, let me ask why you want to
do this. Most home users don't need Professional and buying it might
be a waste of money for you.

I think Pro is a prerequisite for Media Center on 8.

http://www.howtogeek.com/132462/5-al...-on-windows-8/

"To get it, you can upgrade to Windows 8 Pro
and purchase the Media Center Pack."

If you don't have a TV Tuner to make recordings with,
the only thing of value in the Media Center Pack is two
CODEC files for playing commercial DVDs.

*******

The memory license for Windows 8 is as follows:

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/lib...ts_wind ows_8

Version Limit on X86 Limit on X64
Windows 8 Enterprise 4 GB 512 GB
Windows 8 Professional 4 GB 512 GB
Windows 8 4 GB 128 GB

So on Win8, you typically don't need it for memory.
Whereas Pro on Win7 really did come in handy, as
Pro allowed a license for more than 16GB.

Windows 7 Professional 4 GB 192 GB
Windows 7 Home Premium 4 GB 16 GB

For the additional security features and the ability to turn off Microsoft
updates .
And that media center aka media player is put back as well .

Google will give lots of hits on a search for Media Center on Win10,
here's one that seems to work:

AFAIK, all versions of Windows 8/8.1 have the ability to turn off
updates.

And that media center aka media player is put back as well .

Media Center is *not* "aka" Media Player. They are different products.
Windows Media Player 12 is included in all versions of Windows 8 and
8.1.

Media Center is not "put back", either. It's an extra add-on for Win8
Pro which costs money... but I believe it's no longer for sale.

Perhaps you and Al should have a little talk.

Really? And which of those "must have" features do you require?

No i just don't rember all the features and what does it matter to you if i
want a better version them the home version ?
is that what you use?
I never settle for anything but pro versions of what ever software i get.

Just because the box says "Pro" on it doesn't make you a pro.

Especially when you don't know the real difference.
