Default c:\windows\system32\dllcache\ directory question

In my Windows XP there is a c:\windows\system32\dllcache\ directory
which is 464 MB in size and has copies of files that are located in
c:\windows\system32\ directory.

I was just wondering what the purpose of this directory is, if anyone
knows, just out of curiosity. I am not thinking about doing anything
to it but was just wondering about it.

When I do a search for files for whatever reason I seen that a lot of
them have copies in c:\windows\system32\dllcache\ directory and was
wondering about it.

TIA

This might be a good time to learn how to look for answers yourself:

Dllcache is where Windows XP keeps copies of protected system files so
that it can replace them if they are deleted or corrupted.
