Default how do format/install a usb external hard drive

i am just woundering how to install and format an
external hard drive i have purchased. If any one could
help me it would be much appriciated.

Plug it in..
Use Disk Management and partition/Format it.

However, if it is over 32GB, it will want to format it NTFS, if you don't
want this, you will have to locate a 3rd party utility or use a OS other
than XP to format it over 32GB with FAT32.

(I use FAT32 on my external drives because there is no telling what it will
be connected to.. Macintosh, Windows 98, etc..)
