Default Two drives at once?

A little background: 2 weeks ago, my cdrom and my dvd/ burner won't do
anything. I got rid of the upper and lower filters, and everything was
fine. Now, I can read a data cd (for example, photos) but I can't read
any music on either drive. When I try to burn anything, it says "drive
is inaccessable". Event log says "the device number of a (N) cdrom
drive canot be determined."

What is up with this? Any ideas?

hi,

you can try this out.
Right click My Computerclick Propertiesclick HardwareClick Device
Manager
In the Device Manager go to (+) IDE/ATA/ATAPI Controllersright click
Secondary IDE Channel and click on uninstall.
Restart the system.

this should fix the issue.

Thanks for your help in advance.

The IDE controllers show up under "Unknown" if that makes a difference.
There's an ATI IDE controller, two primary controllers, two secondary
controllers and a "stardard dual channel PCI IDE controller" there. I
uninstalled both of the secondary and restarted. Windows found them (as
I am sure you suspected) and installed them. Same problem!
