PCI to PCMCIA ADAPTER
I have a "Startech PC12PCMCIA1" Adapter installed in my Compaq Evo W4000 PC,
which is running "XP Pro SP2", with an Intel Penium 4, 2.0 GHz. processor. When I click "turn off" my computer restarts instead of turning off. The only way turn the computer off is to press and hold the power button on the tower. Has any one seen this or a similar problem? If you can give any ideas for fixing this problem please let me know. Thanks |

Alas, yes. It was painful until I found out the cause. If you can give any ideas for fixing this problem please let me know. Thanks This can happen when you get a BSOD on shut down. Disable "automatically restart" Winkey+Pause-advanced-startup-automatically restart If you DO get a BSOD when this happens, post it, We'll work on it. If not, we have some other issue. And we'll go from there. |

It may not be the culprit, however. and then : Go in to the BIOS, and disable wake on lan and wake on anything else. There was also batch of old p3 compaq workstations I came across a few months ago that also had a similar issue. Traced to bad(ish) PSU. They were always stable, but if you moved the psu from an affected computer, to another one, the other computer would be affected. When a psu was transplanted from an unaffected unit, to an affected one, the issue would be cured. |
