Default why does router require reboot.

I have had a wired network for some years, no problem, always on, so when the
router packed up recently I decided to go wireless with the laptop and
everything is OK except that every time I switch any PC on I have to reboot
the router to get an internet connection,I dont need to reboot the modem or
PC just the router, I have tried disabling all security apps, this did not
used to be the case so have I set something wrong on the new router. Using
Netgear WGR614 v9, XP Home all up to date including firmware.

It is not normal to be required to reboot a router. This seems to be
a problem with your router's configuration or the wireless adapter's
configuration.

You need to always check the wireless adapter manufacturer's web site
and download / install the latest available drivers for your adapter.

BTW: Did you correctly set up the router to access the Internet
modem? I personally seen Internet modems incorrectly connected to a
router. These need to be connected to the Internet / WAN port.

Also, you need to know that several Internet security software "still"
protect your PCs even when they are disabled. I have seen Norton 360,
Anti-Virus, Internet Security 2009 and McAfee continuously protect a
PC when these are disabled. You have to completely uninstall them.

Default why does router require reboot.

It sounds like you are not getting an IP address assigned.
When you switch the PC on can you ping out onto the net?
Can you ping the router/modem?
If this is the case try running a batch script that forces the PC to run on
startup that refreshes and renews your IP.

Default why does router require reboot.

Hi
Check the DHCP range in the Router and make sure that it is set to provide
the amount of IPs that are needed.

Hi Jack,
The DHCP range is OK so I've tried reserving an address for each PC see if
that works.

Thanks for the help, reserving the IP address for each PC has done it, cant
say I know why, just a quirk I guess.
