UEFI and Linux distros
I have read in the last couple of days of how MS let slip some kind of
key that can flash hardware to unlock a crippled modern BIOS which at least allows ARM-equipped tablets to have Windows replaced with Linux. MY 11 inch Lenovo, which instead has an Atom chipset, took some faffing to get so that I could even reinstall a fresh Wnidows 10 on, using the program Rufus to put Windows 10 on a pendrive. It was only after discovering Rufus that I could even get the laptop's BIOS to see a usb stick with an OS on it. The same program and procedure though won't allow Linux Mint to install. Does anyone here know of a way to approximate what MS's keys do for ARM machines? I may keep Windows 10 on one of the three machines I use but tis particular laptop would be better off with something smoother running like Mint, and in any case the challenge and potential knowledge of overcoming the lockdown is of enduring interest after four months of looking into this and periodically giving up. Thanks. --- news://freenews.netfront.net/ - complaints: --- |

MY 11 inch Lenovo I thought that a patch had already been issued to stop that ? And even if unpatched, did it ever apply to machines other than MS Surfaces? |

Just like I don't call Win "Ape", "Ape point 1", nor "Win-10-nic" 'modern'. Nor that 2D FLATSO ****-interface aka "the Metro". more info he http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/08...boot_ms16_100/ https://rol.im/securegoldenkeyboot/ https://filebin.net/hqcfiit2o9kuihcu (hope these links are still good) |
