Download SP2 a little at a time?

Due to problems with Automatic Live UpDate I plan to
download SP2 manually using a dial up modem. Downloading
manually would I be able to download lets say 25% one day
then come back at a later time and download another 25%
and continue on until the download was complete. Or would
I have to download it all at once. Thanks Alan

Presuming you mean downloading full file of SP2, as opposed to Automatic =
Update.
a) Best to get SP2 on CD. Even if it takes a bit of time to reach you.

b) A bunch of work, but you can get full file even if on dialup:

If you only have dialup (and you do not want to wait for a CD from MS), =
first thing I'd have you check on is "how much time" on a single =
connection will your ISP allow you to stay connected? Find that out.
Then I'd suggest you make temporary use (you do not want it all the =
time, later) of a download utility --:=20
Internet Download Manager is a utility that is very helpful if you have =
a "must do" download and you need to overcome any possible "disconnect" =
due to timeout. I've used it with great success in the past. But I do =
not have it on all the time. Do not configure it to always be on; but =
rather use it "on demand".

IDM is ideal for downloading big files, whether you are on dialup or on =
broadband.
It will actually manage to resume a disconnect by doing a redial & =
resuming from where it was.

At 56k, if you only download the 100 megabyte version then
it is about 6-7 hours. It is SUPPOSED to recognize when
you drop the connection and start up later. I've seen it
restart. But I also have what MS now thinks are corrupted
files and they are asking I do the whole 250 meg update
again, twice.

So, to be cautious, if you could manage to get a single 6-7
hour block on the line I'd recommend it, then a couple more
hours perhaps for the install to finish up, etc. But it is
supposed to, and was probably meant to work either way.

That's fine. Just disconnect from the net as needed, then come back on
another occasion and reconnect and the download will pick up from where
it left off.

Mind you, with free CDs about to appear on cover disks and in computer
stores, I would go look for one rather than this enormous download on
dial up

I ordered the XP SP2 CD on the 25 or 26 and got a two days
ago. It isn't taking 4-6 weeks as it says on the order
form. That might change when the load hits. [English USA]

I suspect that is rather like the 'up to 28 days for delivery' that you
see on so many mail-order forms. IOW - don't come asking in first month
after order. With a reasonable organisation and an adequate stock built
before the orders started to flow in, I don't see good reason while it
should take more than a couple of working days to get into hands of
snail-mail
