Default Windows XP clean Installation

I am presently running Win98 and would like to upgrade to windows XP by
doing a clean installation. My problem is that I cannot bootup from de
WinXP installation disk. I have altered the bios sequence so that bootup
will be CDrom/A/C but always get the error messag "Atapi CDrom failure"

My question is: Can I run the WinXP installation disk from Windows98
without any adverse effects?? I have tried and the installation disk is
recognized but I'an afraid to proceed because I'm not sure of the
consequences. Could someone please enlighten me on this matter??

Thanks and best regards

This all depends upon the version of XP [or edition].

You should be able to upgrade from 98; just insert the XP Cd when 98 is
running and follow the prompts.

WARNING: make sure you run the compatibilty check and note down any software
that should be upgraded or device for which drivers need to be found.

Get your upgrades installed first and put all the driver files in a folder
on the hard driver. This will make your upgrade process less eventful.
