Skype runs on startup now?
Not sure if it's Windows, or Voobly, but Skype is running when Windows
boots up. How to stop it? The Google advice to start the program and uncheck the option to run on startup is silly considering they want you to sign up before even seeing such an option. There must be some other way. Doesn't appear to be in CCleaner. It probably shows in System Internals' utility, but why should we have to dig that deep. Thanks. |

Looks like it can be disabled through Task Manager Startup.

BTW, I opened my usual 'startups manager', AutoRuns, and am puzzled by the two entries mentioning Skype. Especially as I don't have 'Lync to Call' installed, only the basic Skype app. Terry, UK Win 10 Pro 1909 build 18363.900 |

Part of Microsoft Office 365, it is an easy-to-use cloud-based platform for online meetings, video conferencing, instant messaging and presentation sharing." I'm am MS Office 365 user, 95% for Excel and 5% Word, so never realised it included a phone call app too. |

Yes, Skype used to be just the "home user" app, the business user version was Lync, which they rebranded to Skype for Business, without much emphasis on the "for Business" name, so there were two different skypes, now they're ditching Skype for Business in favour of Teams. |

The question always is - for both 'John Doe' and you -, is this about the Skype (Metro/Modern/UWP/whatever) *app* - i.e. from the (Windows) 'Store' - or the (normal Windows) 'Skype for Windows' *program* [1]? FWIW, I use the 'Skype for Windows' *program* on Windows *8.1* and it's not started at start-up, because the 'Automatically start Skype' ('when you sign in to Windows') setting is off. Since I haven't even signed into Skype, that setting is irrelevant. I don't know how the icon got there or even when it got there. My taskbar is black, and apparently the Skype icon is black. I just noticed it recently. Maybe it came with a Windows update. Maybe it came with installing Visual Studio's recent update. I don't know what version it is, just wanted it gone. It's gone. |
