Default Memory chip latency

I have always bought the memory I want as a set, same 2 or 4 pieces. Now I want to add a 2nd 8G to my laptop. Does it make any difference
if the latency of the new and old chip don't match? 16 vs 17? New memory is 16 and I know that's faster. Would it be better to make
that the first chip and move the other to the 2nd chip?
