Default Password Protection on Shared Folders

PROBLEM: One computer on a home network cannot access
password protected shared folders on the other computers.
A pop-up requests the password; but the computer never
responds to the request. The popup inserts "Guest" as the
username, but it is grayed out. If password protection is
removed, it can access the files, but very slowly.

BACKGROUND: Network has three computers and a router
connected to a DSL modem.
Computer #1: wired Ethernet connection on a Windows ME
machine.
Computer #2: wireless laptop running Windows 98.
Computer #3: new wireless connection on an HP computer
running Windows XP Home.
Problem is with Computer #3.

Any Suggestions?
Thanks,
Paul

There's a bug in Windows XP (Computer #3) that causes it not to
respond to a password prompt if the name of the computer being
accessed contains a space. Remove all spaces from the computer name
on Computer #1 and #2.
