Default Works Suite 2002 - Microsoft Money 2002 Standard

For reasons I don't understand, when I click Money icon on desktop (or from
Start/Programmes) message 'Unable to initialise an essential Money component.
Please reinstall Money from your original product disks'. I have done this
twice. Have tried to Restore to two previous dates, but told no changes made
to computer so couldnt restore. I have back up on floppy (February,) and
same message shows. I know it was ok on August 12th because I printed out
reports, etc. & am not desparate, only just started to use Money programme,
but VERY frustrated that this has happened just as I leave for a week's
holiday. I've spent four or five hours trying to sort it out. Getting the
run around on M/Soft site because I have a product key for the Works Suite
(not an I.D. number) and the product isn't listed in the drop down menu
anyway. Sorry to go on....any help always appreciated. No rush, take your
time, but I will be checking in soon. Thanks a lot for listening ;-) Elaine

When you attempted system restore did it go thru the motions,
reboot and give 'Unsuccesful Restore - no changes made' ?

Thanks Dave, appreciate prompt response. Have printed linked info and will
do as suggested, now running another restore and expect to mail off a file to
- situation on hold until I get back from Wales.

Also, just wanted to say as a 57 yr old female with no real technical
knowledge and just treating all this as a hobby, I really appreciate help
when its given. Incidentally, it made me realise how other things are
connected to the same problem. I have recently had shut downs for no reason
and my virtual memory prompt has been popping up all over the place, but I
ignored it not knowing what it was all about. Have since gone and printed
some info and will check that out too. Now if you ask me about pairing a new
Motorola and laptop using a Bluetooth card, I'm your girl! Meanwhile, happy
problem solving to anyone who reads this, Elaine

Good luck Elaine - hope your system restore point is still
salvageable.
Unfortunately, MS used poor language with
'Unsuccesful Restore - no changes made'

Looking at some posts, I can see that people have interpreted it to
mean
that system restore didn't do anything because no changes to the
system were
detected.
It doesn't mean that at all. It means that system restore encountered
a
problem and was able to complete. It left the PC as it was (Hence -
no changes made). Subtle, but important difference.
Dave
