Default controller error

Hey Jean,

Post the error so we can have a look, are there any others related to disks?

It might just be remapping a bad block which is ok, or something more
serious.

Check the cable, remember you need 80 wire cables for ata66 and above or
that can cause corruptions.

If the error has caused a problem with the file system then xp will have
flagged it as dirty

Check to see if the disk has been marked dirty

Go to a command prompt

start/run
cmd

and run the command

fsutil dirty query C:

Try it for each partition D E etc

If one does return as dirty it XP will run chkdsk over it the next time you
boot and hopefully fix any corruption.

To be on the safe side, back anything up you can't afford to lose.
