Default Will Verizonl no longer let read pop mail or send smtp mail from out of the USA?

Samve post with alt.online-service.verizon added.

Thanks for telling me about that group!

2) Is it true that Verizon will no longer let people read pop mail or
send smtp mail from out of the USA? I was told that by a guy who
usually knows, and the first few times I tried, I coudlnt' do either
(except using webmail.) But something happened -- maybe I fiddled
with some eudora program files -- and now I can send and receive?

Apparently you did not take Paul's advice and actually call *Verizon* on
their policies. Newsgroups are where you get *peer* help. Verizon
would know their own policies. Ask them.

As I implied in the first post, I'm out of the country and so most
or all 800 numbers won't even work, and ff they or some non-800
number did work, I'd have to pay while I sat on hold, only I suspect,
to be told either the wrong info or that they don't know the answer.

I've had good experiences dealing with Verizon support via Twitter
account @VerizonSupport. Or you can contact them via the Verizon Direct
forum at DSLreports.com - https://www.dslreports.com/forum/vzdirect.
Much better than calling since the history of your discussion is there
in case you speak to someone different later on.

One question if anyone knows. I want to look into the status of an
order on ebay, and I only get the local ebay. Any way to force it to
give USA ebay?

It's not just as simple as changing the suffix, is it? If I enter
ebay.com instead of the enay.co.uk I usually use, I get prices in
dollars and sellers mostly in USA (though, unless shipping is a _lot_
more expensive over there!, I think the shipping quotes are still to me
here in England).

I don't know what happened. I'm sure it redirected me once, and
probably twice, but this last time, it went to the USA ebay just fine,
and I was able to log in, look at my prior orders, get the model of my
phone machine (which I had bought a replacement cordless handset for
on ebay, since I expect it to fail (the power button is already hard
to push), and from that I could dl the owners manual. Which I need
because, though I brought notes with me and I was able to do it for
the first time a couple days before I left, I can't manage to
interrupt the outgoing message to play my incoming messages. (and
which gives an outgoing message I've never heard before in someone
else's voice, maybe one that came with the phone/answering machine. I
don't know how that could happen, but I want to read the ower's
manual.)

Anyhow it works, when it didn't. Just as Verizon works when it didn't
and when I addressed an email to Erols, it said it was on a blacklist
and now neither of those things happen (though both of them happened
when I had fouled up Eudora by putting two very similar dll's in the
same plugin directory, although I don't see how that's is related. It
must have been a coincidence. (In fact they may have both started
before I fouled up Eudora.)

But fouling up Eudora really did have had loads of consequences. It
kept telling me I had to rebuild the .toc, table of contents, of the
outbox, and then never succeeded in doing so. It said that I needed
a version of Internet Explorer as great or greater than 3, when I have
8 and it's been working fine for years. (By coincidence or otherwise,
when I went to check on the condition of IE, all it would do is look
for updates, and it looked and looked and looked, never found, and
woudn't do anything else, although eventually IE got back to normal
too! Surely fouling up Eudora could not foul up IE. And of course,
although I posted to the Eudora group about this, not to the xp or
verizon group, eventually everything in Eudora worked except I
couldn't open any of the mailboxes (though I could look at them in
file manager and see that the size, date, and time changed when Eudora
said I'd gotten mail for a particular mailbox) , just because I had
two versions of viewer.dll, one an older version renamed, in the
plugins directory. (Don't bother looking. It doesn't come with Eudora
but with Brana's Greek Viewer.) Every dll in the plugins directory
gets loaded, and apparently having two of the same thing, (in this
case, one a little different) (with different file names, or it
wouldn't be possible) is very bad.
