Default Windows XP Pro Serial code query

Hi there,

I have a spare licence code for both Winodw XP Pro x64 and Windows XP Pro
Media Centre. But I really just need Windows XP and wondered if can use any
of the above codes to a version of Windows XP Pro?

If so any idea where I can get a copy of Windows XP Pro or Media Centre, as
I lost my CD unfortanatly

Thanks Guys and Gals

Media Center is a 'superset' of XP Pro - and as such its keys can be used to
install XP Pro of the appropriate type (OEM only - not Retail, IIRC)
As far as acquiring a CD - the only way to legally acquire a CD is to buy it
from an authorised reseller

I think the licence is tied to the key and the installed software, not the
CD, one could borrow a CD, copy it and it's not illegal if he uses his own
key.

No, you can't. Product Keys are bound to the specific type and
language of CD/license (OEM, Volume, retail, or full) with which they
are purchased. For example, a WinXP Home OEM Product Key won't work for
any retail version of WinXP Home, or for any version of WinXP Pro, and
vice versa. An OEM Product Key will not work to install a retail
product. An Italian Product Key will not work with an English CD.
Bottom line: Product Keys and CD/license types cannot usually (it's been
reported that the Product Key for a full license will work with an
Upgrade CD) be mixed & matched.

If it was a retail license and you have proof of purchase:

If it was an OEM license, you should contact the computer's
manufacturer.

Additionally, since you already own licenses, as represented by the
Product Keys, you can try finding the matching installation CD via
computer fairs, flea markets, or even eBay (as long as you're not
counting on getting a legitimate license along with the CD).
