Default help with a satelite modem and xp

recently got a direcway DW6000 modem and sat dish. works good with the
network except when we try to log onto a secured page at a bank for example.
their homepage comes up, but when we try to logon it says the page is not
available.

we didn't have this problem until getting the sat modem. before this we were
on a simple dial-up and were able to logon. and no we didn't run the dial-up
through the network *S* all 3 pc's are running xp and work through mshome
network and a linksys router and switch. thought the router and modem may
have been in conflict as both are capable of dhcp, so we took it out of the
system still had the problem. we tried to run IE with proxy setting given by
the modem website for improving browsing speed. Speed improved a bit but the
problem persisted. tried netscape to see if it was a browser problem. it
came back and said "the connection was refused when attempting contact" Is
there something in advanced setting that may cause this problem? Makes me
think there is something within xp itself that needs to be adjusted in order
for the sat dish to tell the secure server what it needs to know to allow
access. any ideas?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I might be completely wrong here but I remember looking at satelite a while
ago and if I remember correctly, it's a one way link, ie, you can download
but not upload. Does your bank require a certificate ? If so, and you can't
send these details to the server, then this could be why you can't access the
secured page. Have you tried connecting to your bank via dial up to rule this
out ?

Regards Colin.

It used to be that way when DirecWay first came out a number of years
ago, but it isn't any more. It is more likely a problem with the proxy
settings that you need to run for the satellite service or the IE
security settings.

Randy, see my comments above. You might try putting the bank address in
your Trusted Sites in IE. If that still doesn't work, check with
DirecWay tech support because their setup is definitely non-standard.
