Is there a way to get the Win 7 games to a win 8.1 machine.
I suppose MS is trying to get buyers/subscribers to the on-line
versions which in my case will not happen.

Ah! This was interesting; when you do "properties" on the shortcuts to
games in Win7 it obfuscates the target. Anyway, they were easy to find,
on my Win7-64 they are in:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games

Just copy them over; I dont see why they wouldn't work in Win8...

Best Regards,

Best Regards,

They don't, or that was the issue years ago when win8 came out. There was a patcher that made them work on win8 but
that patcher is long gone if not impossible to find. Some people got it, I did but got rid of it. I just have the
modified games on a usb now and won't lose them otherwise I'm sol. Wish I had kept the patcher. I think it got hit
by an AV program somewhere.

Thanks for the info.

Found the patcher:

But my Firefox refuses to download it (on Mediafire) says it may contain crap...

There's a full install file which does download, if you can trust it:

FF is doing this with many things. I get it when trying to download
IrfanView. It's a new feature which you can turn off or ignore. You can
always download and run a malware scanner on the downloaded file if you
are concerned.

This is likely more of this "reputation based malware analysis".
If a download isn't "popular", it must be bad. Some AVs
use this approach too, stopping you if you're downloading
something that no one else has downloaded. Instead of the
AV doing signature analysis or relying on heurisitics
(behaviors when run) to detect malware. It's a pretty
lazy method. And small software developers hate this...

Well, if it it based on popularity, it isn't working. I would hardly
call IrfanView not popular. According to the Home page, there have been
over 1 million downloads every month since 2003. Of course, if it's
based on Google data, we all know how that can be manipulated...

This says Firefox calls your AV to scan a download.

I'm running FF under Linux. No AV involved. This is /probably/ the reason:
https://blog.mozilla.org/security/20...on-in-firefox/

It all stems from Google’s Safe Browsing service.

Which in turn, is tied into Google's acquisition of
virustotal.com about a year or two ago. They offer
"search by hash value" on that site.
