Default Setting up a proxie for browsing

Hi,
I have tried several times to set up a proxie for browsing.
I can't figure it out. Is there some instruction,
STEP-BY-STEP that I can use and get this done. I would
really like the protection.

If you consider this off-topic, don't reply.

Thanks!
