Default Windows XP SP2 Upgrade Internet Slow

Hi,
I have just Upgraded from Windows XP SP1 to SP2.
In preparation I Virus Scanned Using McAfee V9.
I Also scanned for spyware using the latest versions of:
a) Spyware Doctor 3.2.1.359
b) Spybot 1.04
c) AdAware 1.06r1
I defragged the drive and emptyied the temp file folders
and cleaered the IE6 browser cache.

On completion of Install I defragged and started using
the new version of IE6. I found that the internet performance
considerably slower than SP1 at a variety of different
times of the day using a set of 10 websites home pages.
I also have Firefox (1.06) installed and was suprised that it's
performance was considerably better than IE6.

IE6 SP1 3 secs to load a page
IE6 SP2 = 10 secs
Firefox SP2 = 3 secs

I read on another forum that DISABLING the Firewall service
(services.msc) and relying on my 3rd Party Firewall (ZoneAlarm 6.x Free)
would improve matters.
It has reduced the IE6 SP2 value = 7 secs

Has anyone got any ideas how I can reduce the time to load a Page?
In order to do these tests I cleared the cache each time, and cleared the
History as well (am not sure if # cookies effects performance).
It is also puzzling that the time to load a page AFTER the home
page has been loaded (ie within the site) is = 5 secs in IE6 SP2.
So it seems that there is more happening to pull the first page than
subsequent pages from the same Website?

Ideas appreciated

Cheers

The system performance is slow after you install Windows XP Service Pack
2 or upgrade to Windows XP with Service Pack 2:

With SP2,in firewall, have you added any exceptions,IE defiently needs
to be added. Also, mcafee version 8 (not sure with9) but is a real hog
on useing alot of resources,8 actually takes over the firewall in SP2,knowing
mcafee b.s. its no wonder web pages even open,9 is probably worse....
