Don't want messenger to start
I don't want messenger to load. I've unchecked the appropriate boxes but
every time I boot (XP Pro) it comes up. When I try to close the program I get the message "There are other applications currently using features provided by Windows Messenger. You must close these other applications before you can exit Windows Messenger. These applications may include Outlook, Outlook Express, MSN Explorer, and Internet Explorer." I've searched high and low and can't find anything that seems to be loading/using it. I have Office 2003 installed. |

Don't want messenger to start
Greetings,
Do you have Norton Antivirus installed? Recent versions of Norton Antivirus added a new "instant messaging scanning" feature, which can conflict with Messenger and cause it to also keep starting. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus icon in the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'), click Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "Wowbagger" none wrote in message ... Don't want messenger to start
Pennie,
I have Norton Antivirus 2003 (version 5.0.2600.1106). Click on the OPTIONS tab, then scroll down to INTERNET and click on the sub heading INSTANT Messenger which reveals three Messengers (AOL, MSN and Yahoo) that can be protected......un-check all Messengers. Derek "Pennie" wrote in message ... I've got Norton 2003 and the instant messenger option isn't there under options, just what is included in my Norton System Works. I've tried to figure this out for a week now and it's driving me nuts. I've tried to disable, tried to remove and it's not even there, it just shows my MSN Messenger 6.1 which is what I use. As soon as I log on to the internet, Windows will sign on if I don't cancel the signon and I sometimes have to do that twice. I just really wish it wasn't even on my pc, it's been nothing but a pain..hehe..I would appreciate any help. Thanks, Pennie |

Don't want messenger to start
OK, I finally found that option going through "configure Norton System Works" but Windows Messenger is still signing on automatically when the internet connection is made. Is there a way to delete Windows Messenger? I don't use Outlook which I've heard c
an be affected if you deleted it. Thanks all for trying to help me, Pennie |
