Free Anti-Malware any where now?

Well, I managed to get on the fouled up machine and down load malearebytes. It ran and detected 1397 "objects" -- I have no idea what an "object" is too MWB ---but when I tried to delete them, MWB won' until I pay --- ie MWB is no longer free. So, my question,: Is there a free antivirus software now? This is a windows-8 group. I thought that came with installed anti malware. |

Suggestion: in the future, *before* you download something, post a message here with an exact copy of the link you are planning to use. Wait for responses from the multitude before downloading and installing it. Even better, go to this link for their homepage: http://www.malwarebytes.org/ or this link to download the *FREE* version: http://www.techspot.com/downloads/47...i-malware.html the actual download is on a button near the centre of the page with the word "DOWNLOAD" in it. This links to: Sorry, my advice was more far-reaching and more valuable than yours. I am suggesting to Pfsszxt that he do the above for *any* downloads that he is planning to do. Let me requote part of my remark: "in the future, *before* you download something". Note that there is no reference to any one program, such as MalwareBytes. Instead, I used the non-specific term "something". I used that term consciously and intentionally. -- Gene E. Bloch (Stumbling Bloch) |

I was only trying to help with the one problem Pfsszxt seemed to have at the time to get his machine working. Generalised aid and succour I was leaving to a less urgent thread. I thought that even my sister could follow my advice. I thought Pfsszxt might need leading by the hand a few times to fix his current problems one at a time and that while doing so he might learn to distinguish valid downloads from invalid ones. I've used this specific-to-general approach to good effect with a number of pupils, but if you think it's a bad idea, I'm cool with that. Apologies for butting in. I will leave future help to others. J. Butting in is normal and expected behavior in these parts :-) What you might not have been aware of when you posted your comments is Pfsszxt's posting history in recent weeks. He claims many years of experience in personal computers, yet has managed to report making a shambles of many things he tried to do, and he has consistently failed to follow good advice that was posted in response to his queries. He has also been accused of being a very clever troll. IOW, helping with "the one problem" is not feasible with that poster...and is what led to my generalized suggestions. -- Gene E.
