Default Screne Resolution. Windows Live Mail

Windows XP

I am with impaired vision and using the 800x600 resolution
in windows XP SP3.
I installed Windows Live Mail.
It does not coming up in Fonts size upto that level.
In coming messages can be setup in large/largest font size
in Options Tab READ. It does not make any difference
in its own setup part. The menu line is ok.
But other parts like list of folders from INbox to downward
are very fine print and very light black colour.
Is there anyway that part can be made more easily readable
in more large/largest font size and in dark colours.

Any help would be very much appreciated?

AAH,did you download the program separately ,or with Windows Essentials Program suite? It is to my understanding that Windows Live has been replaced with Hotmail and Outlook.com.

There is a Colour/More Colour options available on WLM command line.
How can a dark black colour be used to make it more visible?

That won't change the size of the font though.

Apparently, on later OSes, and if you're using Office, there
is some control panel that can edit that stuff. But not on WinXP.

I made a bit of progress.

Using regedit, I followed the recipe offered here. At
least part of it.

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...e-517521a8502e

I blanked out the definition of these. For example, the first
one of these was originally "segoeui.ttf" and now it's "", which
is an empty string.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts]
"Segoe UI (TrueType)"=""
"Segoe UI Bold (TrueType)"=""
"Segoe UI Italic (TrueType)"=""
"Segoe UI Bold Italic (TrueType)"=""

There is a Font Substitute mapping. This key doesn't exist, so you
have to go into FontSubstitutes and make a "New" "String Value" by the
name of Segoe UI. Then, edit the resulting blank entry and set it to Tahoma.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes]
"Segoe UI"="Tahoma"

A reboot was needed, likely to have the first set of four changes
honored by the system.

Now, I tried to change to "Tahoma Bold" (since I don't know
how to change the size), but wlmail.exe would not start up!
An item appeared in the lower right of the screen (a menu),
which means some portion of Windows Live Mail started, but
not the main window. It did not seem to tolerate the change
to Tohoma Bold all that well. If Tahoma Bold currently sits
in that Registry entry, when wlmai.exe is launched, the window
won't paint.

But after another reboot (after the change to Tahoma Bold,
the print in the Windows Live Mail got a little darker in
the Navigation Pane. You can see my third result, looks
a little darker.

So the nuisance sequence to get that third picture is:

1) Use Regedit, change the FontSubstitutes to ""Segoe UI"="Tahoma Bold"
2) Exit Regedit, reboot.
3) If you run wlmail.exe now, the window will not appear.
4) Use Regedit, change the FontSubstitutes to ""Segoe UI"="Tahoma"
Do *not* reboot.
5) wlmail.exe will run, and appears to then be using Tahoma Bold.
After step 2, after the reboot it's like a system font is successfully
using Tahoma Bold, and this is inherited somehow by wlmain.exe.
Even though the Regedit step in (4) has mapped it to the non-bold "Tahoma".
6) If you were to reboot, with the Regedit set to "Tahoma" now, then
on the next system start, you'll be back to the weaker looking
font. So before shutdown, and after wlmai.exe is completely exited,
you can change the Registry setting back to "Tahoma Bold", in preparation
for the next reboot (when you get up tomorrow).
7) Like a freaking light switch, you'll need to play with that
setting all the time, to keep it working.
8) A clever person, could write a launcher script, to do the
Registry merge before the executable runs, and after it has
exited. So this process could be automated.

Maybe someone else has an explanation for this, and there is some
other way to make the change more permanent.
