Brain Fart ...... (Settings)

I just reinstalled XP on my laptop. (XP-Pro SP3). When doing a new
installation there are a hundred things to set, install, modify, etc.
In the process of getting rid of annoyances, I modified some setting to
stop automatic upgrades and installs. But I went one step too far, I
guess.

This Lenovo laptop always ends up with two "unknown" drivers that are
needed. I downloaded every driver on the Lenovo site for this computer,
but somehow I cant get those two fixed. The last time I installed to
this computer, I just went online and let them automatically install,
which worked great. I dont normally allow stuff to install without my
approval, but there is little choice here. Plus I think these are
mostly drivers from reliable sites like Microsoft or Lenovo.

Anyhow, I went to a WIFI last night and found that whatever setting I
modified is not allowing, or even giving me the option to download those
drivers. My only options are to install them from a local source. (On
the computer or a floppy or other plug-in media).

I'm hoping that one of you who are much more familiar with XP will know
which setting I modified that is not allowing me to download the
drivers. I just can not remember where it was located, or what I
changed. But after spending hours tweaking, one tends to have a brain
fart. I used TweakUI, and did the rest manually. I only edited the
registry to remove balloon popups, which is adding one line. (Dword)
Nothing else was touched in the registry.

Anyone know what I did, and how to fix it?

IE settings are inherited by Firefox. So both browsers may be subject
to the same restriction.

System Key: [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings\Zones\3]
Value Name: 1803
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
(0 = downloads enabled, 3 = downloads disabled)

See if your 1803 is set to 3. In the GUI, this might
correspond to one of the slider settings (like High)
for Internet Zone or something. I don't know what
Zone3 is, but it might be Internet (untrusted).

It appears my Zone3 is set to 0 (download OK) and
my Zone4 is set to 3 (download Disabled).

The GUI would be a more intelligent way to set
things - if you had a mapping from low-medium-high
slider value, to what registry settings are involved.

I went there, and there is no 1803. Not in ANY zone. There are other
numbers. I then went to IE and set everything low (wide open). I still
dont get the option to install the drivers from online.

I used to **** and moan that every time I did anything, the computer was
trying to go online. Now it wont even attempt to go online.

I did finally find the settting though. It was in ControlPanel/System.
So everything works again.

What was the setting exactly ?

I've got seven tabs in my System control panel, and a
bunch of paths below that. I can't figure out what
you might have used.
