Default sound is garbled

I recently installed Windows XP in my HP Pavillion xt878.
Everything seemed fine until I installed Print SHop and
Printmaster by Broderbund. Now the sounds are garbled.
I've been able to remove Print SHop, but have failed to
effectively remove Print Master. Sounds (especially the
opening sounds when I reboot) is garbled. This is my
first attempt posting at a newsgroup, so I hope I'm doing
it correctly. Can anyone help. Thanks Alan in Ohio
