why do I have a choice of windowsXP or windows which takes me to a dos prompt
instead of just going

Hi,

Because your boot.ini file has an extra line. Click start/run, type
C:\boot.ini and click ok. This will open boot.ini in notepad, click
edit/select all/edit/copy. Open a reply to the message, click in the message
text area and hit ctrl+v to paste the contents, then send it for review.
