Ah, I see, you think of argument as a contest.

I think of it as a method of augmenting and rearranging knowledge so
that it's more accurate.

Glad I could set you right
We spend too much on education.

Your augmented reality made Lesotho the number 2 country in the world
for education.

Back it up at anytime

Oh, by the way, just to give you more reality, so you may be able to
rearrange your "facts", my highest year of attainment in school was the
9th grade, and I went on to make quite a living.

My son graduated high school, didn't attend college, yet bought his second
house (3300 sq ft), at the age of 31. He rents the first house to some
college graduates, and lucky for them he did so, as their credit scores
are in the upper 500's.

We're always happy to help out a down-on-their-luck college graduate.
They tend to need lots of help

You're whole system is rigged to the benefit of educators.
It ain't rocket science.

I've made a pretty good living, too. And a generally satisfying one.

My son graduated high school, didn't attend college, yet bought his second
house (3300 sq ft), at the age of 31. He rents the first house to some
college graduates, and lucky for them he did so, as their credit scores

Ok, one good snark deserves another:
So it's all about buying houses? that's strange, I thought it was about
living a good life.

Money helps, or isn't that what budgets are aboot?

Statistics disagree with you. You're an outlier. But (I apologise in
advance for the snark):

Statistics are not ever quite but what the person making them is willing
to show
I'm no more an outlier than any other you will never read about.

Your Grade 9 didn't include a unit on how to read statistics,
apparently. If you'd been in my Grade 9 English class, you'd have had
such a unit. Part of what we up here in the brain-freezing north call
"critical thinking".

I did statistical anaylsis for a living in the automotive business for years.
I know all about mean, std dev, kurtosis, probability, you name it.

I also did statistical studies on process variables to determine their effect
on equipment settings.
It had a name, but I can't recall the procedural study name.

You're whole system is rigged to the benefit of educators.
It ain't rocket science.

If that were so, educators in your country would be making as much money
as, say, plumbers, bankers, and hockey players. If you think it's rigged
for their benefit, why don't you join them? After all, "wI made quite a
living" suggest that you think it's all about the money, right? And they
get the summer off, too! Wow, what a soft touch!

Yeah, I remember when teachers were all girls, except physical ed and
woodshop.

BTW, even up here, where we pay teachers a decent wage, teachers'
salaries make up about 55 to 60% of the gross cost of schools. That is
over half, of course, but to me that doesn't look like it's rigged.

Here, it's 80% if you include benefits.

I'd also like to know what you mean by "8% for student needs" (as
mentioned in another post)? If you mean special education (classes,
supplies and equipment, class-room assistants and care-givers, etc)
that's pretty good. Very high, compared to other jurisdictions. If you
mean something else, what exactly?

It is just stated as supplies, books, etc.

Sorry, I missed this.
Your link to wikipedia brought this up with Snot.

We include benefits with salaries. Sorry, I should have made that clear.
Surprised you don't. If you include pensions, that's a problem, because
it seems in the USA public pension plans have been grossly underfunded
for years, and badly managed, too.

Grossly underfunded by those that will one day receive them, here.
They have been upping the percetage here, but whether it is to little, we
will see.

Here, we teachers pay into our pension plan. When I retired, I was
paying 9.1% of gross into the pension plan. Now, teachers pay almost
13%. The Provincial Government in theory pays in an equal amount, in the
form of bonds. However, except for two years in the 1970s when we had
that oil crisis, the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan payouts have been
entirely funded by teacher contributions an earned investment income.
It's of the best-managed pension plans in the world, and worth many
billions of dollars.

I pay 10.5% here for retirement, which I very little care about.
I made money early, then picked a government job for the end.
I get great benefits, though.

The reason for the increasing teacher contributions to the plan is to
prevent the government from actually having to cash in the bonds to pay
pensions. Sweet deal for the taxpayer, eh?

It's rarely a sweet deal for the taxpayer.
Government looks out for itself most of the time.

And where is "here" exactly?

The United(formerly) States.

BTW, nice to know you did stats analysis. That explains your snarky
comment about Lesotho. :-)

Yeah, I get stats.

However: while GDP fractions fail as comparators of actual spending
between countries with vastly different GDP/person, they are fairly good
guides to national priorities.

You may find that the GDP number is often misleading.
As a percent of gub'met spending, Lesotho is at 7-9% for education.
How much that is allocated is not always how much that is spent.

Best,

Back at ya
