Tell your pushy friend that you only do fresh (clean) installs.

OK. What does she need for me to do that?

Windows install DVD
License Key

Where does she get these?

If you don't know the answer to that question, your skills aren't
great enough to help her, and that's what you should tell her.

Try to help a neighbor and screw things up for her, and you will have
an ex-friend.

He can do an upgrade and hope it gets activated, then do a clean
install.

Whether she can do an upgrade depends on what she's running now, and
Alek hasn't told us that.

Once that is done, upgrade. That whole process will make sure that
everything is spotless and minimize the chances of problems.

Is she mentally sick? If she is then she can still get a free upgrade.
Microsoft is quite generous with mental people.

Not a bad idea, especially if you are worried that things might fail
along the way. I recreate a Macrium image of my PC's installation every
two weeks or so for ****s and giggles.

Depends entirely on what your relationship is with that neighbor, what
your willingness to help is, and how confident you are with your
skills. If you don't want to help, tell him that your skills aren't
great enough to help (regardless of how great they actually are).

Depends on what i srequired for me to install Win 10 on her computer.

Regardless of what is required, if your skills aren't great enough,
you always run the risk of screwing it up. And based on what you've
posted here , I suspect that they aren't, so I recommend that you do
not do this.

Give this Microsoft site a viewing.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/acce...ndows10upgrade

Assuming your friend needs to use one of the many accessibility features
she can still do a free W10 upgrade, provided she has a working
"activated" version of W7 or W8 on her system OR has a valid license for
either.

On a fresh install say to a blank hard drive or on a hard drive that
currently will not boot would require her to use the old license (W7 or
W8) key to activate W10.

1 Make an Image of the currend Boot and System partitions with Macrium
Reflect (Free) so you can alway's restore to the original system. Make
a bootable restoremedium by the software and test it.
2 update to Win10 whith the site GlowingBlueMist provided.
3 Seeif the Win10 is activated
4 Remove The Boot and system partition.
5 Install a clean Win10 from the bootable media you can get from
Microsoft
6 The Win10 gets automaticly activated, check this.
7 Make a Immage of the new Boot and System pertitions.
8 Get you reward from her.

Thanks. If we do step 2 and 3, why do we need to do 5?

What is the purpose of step 4?

Thanks.

1 Make an Image of the current Boot and System partitions with Macrium

If all you want to do is an upgrade step 5 is not needed.

Some people do not like the thought of anything possibly being left
behind from the old system after an upgrade and follow the upgrade with
a complete reload of W10. They just did the initial W10 upgrade so that
they could get the PC registered with Microsoft and gain the W10 activation.

What is the purpose of step 4?

Step 4 can be done if you suspect a possible virus might be hiding
somewhere on the hard drive, like in a partition table or you just want
W10 to control the creation of the partitions directly rather than
having W10 put up with possible partition sizes left over from the OS
prior to upgrading to W10.

If no hidden virus is suspected there is no actual reason to do step 4
if the upgrade did indeed succeed. It might make things look nicer to
some by having W10 create all the partitions it thinks it needs from
scratch but by no means is it actually necessary.

I suggest reading this, before you get too
excited about your project.

http://betanews.com/2016/08/03/micro...s-10-loophole/

If your customer generated a Digital Entitlement before
July 29, then the project is still on. If no Win10
work has ever been done on the machine to date, then
it's going to be a lot tougher. It's November
after all, and ya gotta wonder how long the
Accessibility crowd will have their chance at
an upgrade.

Money will fix it. You can buy a copy, and get the
license key that way, rather than trying to find
a way to generate a Digital Entitlement that comes
with the free upgrade path.
