Default Shortcut path invalid

It has worked earlier however, now when I click on my
CD=R/W shortcut a screen pops up reading "invalid path"
or "path cannot be found". I have gone to properties and
configured also created new shortcuts, nothing seems to
work. Using WinXPHome on a HP computer.
Anyone familiar with this prob?
All responses will be greatly appreciated.
