DVD Ripper to MPG or WMV
Hi,
I have some home videos that are on DVD, that were originally on VHS tape. Note: I still have the VHS tape. A few or more years ago, I paid for Amigo DVD Ripper V2.8 (shareware) which worked fine for creating a smaller size display MPG videos from a DVD. I tried DVDx4.0 ripper, but the MPG video will not play using MS Media Player on my Wife's WinXP laptop. It does play on my Win7 laptop (Media Player). Can you recommend a DVD ripper that creates a MPG or WMV that will play on an older version of Media Player? Thank You in advance, John |

DVD Ripper to MPG or WMV
Find the VOB files. Copy them from the DVD to the hard drive. Use something like VLC to play them. VLC even has a "Convert" option, but I don't know what it does for me. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VLC_media_player A commercial DVD would have the normal protections. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decss Whereas the home-made DVD is more or less just a "data disc". And you should be able to do what you like with it, with minimal tool-age. No "ripper of commercial content" needed. Because the home made DVD is not encrypted. Paul Hi Paul, I copied the VOB files (from DVD) to the HD and used VLC to convert them to MP4. Note: A 608KB VOB file became a 286KB MP4 file. I installed VLC on my Wife's laptop so she can view these larger display home videos. Again Thank You and "pip" for your replies, John |
