One was UK English spelling, the other American. We've adopted the American version for computers in the UK. Disc/disk started the same path but that one diverged into what you call "general convention". Ed Actually "disk" is the older form. I suppose you're referring to Greek δίσκος, from which Romans got their "discus" (Latin not having a kappa). And then, of course, the Romance languages evolved from that; although I don't think a single one of them went back to a "k" (French "disque" and Spanish "disco" reflect something of Latin's noun inflections.) You should have your installer DVD handy, in case you need to boot up and do a restore over top of C: . The storage format is VHDX, for images. For the file-by-file backup option, they segment the backup into 200MB ZIP files or so. Using this stuff is an "acquired taste". There are some users who swear "the utility has to be made by Microsoft before I will trust it", and this mechanism ensures those people can do backups. Whereas otherwise, they'd have to break their oath to do so. Paul |

Notice the 120GB file; https://www.dropbox.com/s/owfmhi5bxv...Image.jpg?dl=0 The drawback is the time it takes, when compared to third-party imaging programs which are just as reliable in my experience. It(Backup and Restore) is also a 12 yr. old product(first introduced in Vista in 2006)unlike the more favored 3rd party products(e.g.Macrium and Acronis)which providers routinely update and patch for o/s compatibility or improvement. -- ...w¡ñ§±¤ñ msft mvp windows experience 2007-2016, insider mvp 2016-2018 |
