Hangs at startup and lost IP address with DHCP enabled
Someone out there must have this problem. HELP! I started
my laptop last night and it hung. I opened Task Manager/processes and noticed that I had a Svchost.exe Local Service process that was "eating" my memory. The memory usuage just kept increasing. I ended the process and the system continued on. Then I noticed that the connection to my network (wireless router with cable modem) Icon was gone. As I navigated to the "Connect To" link in my start menu (to see what was wrong with my card) the Icon re-appeared and all looked fine but I was not able to connect to the web or email. I then clicked the Icon to see what the status was of the connection and the IP address had changed to the Automatic Private Address of 169.254.195.38. My settings are still the same as before and DHCP is still enabled. I have not changed or installed ANYTHING. This is the third time this has happened and on three different computers. The only way I have found to correct the problem is FORMAT and re-install. |

Hangs at startup and lost IP address with DHCP enabled
I have a similar problem that I haven't fully figured out. My computer
absolutely will not recognize my cable internet connection at boot-up. The system hangs for about 60 seconds at boot-up, and no connection is ever detected. The registered IP is 169.254.xx.xx, which basically means there isn't a "real" IP address detected. The only two ways I can get my internet connection to work is to (1) physically unplug and re-plug the ethernet cable from the back of the computer; OR (2) Under network connections, right-click on "Local Area Connection" and Disable the network, wait a few seconds, then right-click and Enable it. It's a strange and frustrating problem that I have spent HOURS trying to fix without success. Good luck, Rob rjm1 hotmail.com "Russell" wrote in message ... Someone out there must have this problem.
