Can't upgrade to SP2 or repair XP
We have a PC in our office which had been upgraded from Win 98 to XP SP1. I
am trying to upgrade it to SP2 but am receiving the message "The procedure entry point PtInSect could not be located in the dynamic link library USER32.dll". In addition, My Computer properties indicate that the OS is Win 98 although it is clearly XP, which might indicate that the upgrade from 98 to XP was botched. I tried to repair the XP SP1 installation by booting from the CD but get the message that NTDLR is missing. Since I can't boot with the CD, I can't repair the system. Can anyone suggest a solution? Any help will be greatly appreciated. |

Back up your data, format the drive, install Windows, etc. Here are links to help: http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html - Clean Install How to slipstream sp2 into XP http://www.msfn.org/articles.php?act...showarticle=49 http://www.windows-help.net/windowsx...p2-bootcd.html Malke -- MS MVP - Windows Shell/User www.elephantboycomputers.com In Memoriam - MVP Alex Nichol The world is diminished without him. |
