Thanks, somehow it wouldn't let me overwrite a Onedrive shortcut, went to Onedrive.com and deleted it but it still didn't work even if the folder was empty I copied the files of interest, I realize this is a hack and might come back to get me ... -- dale - http://www.dalekelly.org/ Not a professional opinion unless specified. |

I can't be sure, but I think Andy is hinting that you moved your home directory or something. You can do that, as there is a Junction Point to allow flexible relocation of various things the OS uses. You may need to "re-wire" the Junction Point so that your Documents show again. Perhaps they're on your D: drive as D:\users\dale or something similarly creative ? For the record, historically the OS installer logic does not like it when users move stuff. But since your upgrade finished, that is evidence you didn't move things. We will never receive any advanced notice, if Microsoft ever decides to fix that. So perhaps the very first step, in collecting evidence, is locating some of your files and figuring out where they are at the moment. Perhaps the path to the files, will hint what happened ? If you did a *full backup* first, of course there will be easy ways to escape. However, depending on how clever your setup is, and whether you designed your backup configuration to cover everything, it's hard to say whether the backup is all that easy to restore. I don't know if you can tell, but I *do not* recommend moving those Junction Points. That's an advanced topic for "people who can handle any eventuality". Because doing so, can introduce multiple surprises. It's like I don't recommend "RAID disks" for average users either, due to the surprises that can cause. I've tested RAID disk setups, to uncover issues, but I have no interest in putting my files on a setup like that. If you like aggravation, go right ahead and move stuff. Put your Program Files (x86) on E: etc. Then watch the fireworks. Paul |

Yes, it's possible it had been moved in the past, and in my experience if moved to a different drive, it's then possible to end up with an empty c:\users\Fred\Documents re-created after an update You can do that, as there is a Junction Point to allow flexible relocation of various things the OS uses. If he can see where his files actually are, I was suggesting using the properties/location/move option to move the documents folder to be where the files are. |

I didn't change the Location under Properties, it wouldn't let me because there was a Onedrive folder shortcut, even after, as per the pop-up instructions, I deleted the folder on Onedrive.com just moved the files, but I don't like the location, I thought I got rid of Onedrive at some point and switched to Google's drive, some update reactivated it think I will put a a shortcut to c:\Users\me\Documents in a convenient place -- dale - http://www.dalekelly.org/ Not a professional opinion unless specified. |

I did that but it still will not switch locations -- dale - http://www.dalekelly.org/ Not a professional opinion unless specified. |
