Default Windows XP Home Edition Product Key

One of my clients PC's was buggering around so I had to
run a repair, but when the repair has finished it asks me
for the Product Key. Now the clients accidently throw away
the product key, so what can I do to retrieve the Product
key from the Drive.

They registered the Windows so is it possible that
Microsoft can give me the Product Key off their records
from the registration.

Please Help

Regards

phone and ask or by a new copy. You have "clients" and you don't know,
get real.

Default Windows XP Home Edition Product Key

Greetings --

The Windows 25-character Product Key (required to perform the
installation) is stored somewhere on the CD packaging on a bright
orange sticker that says "Do not lose this number." If it was an OEM
(factory installed) license, it's stored on a label that the PC
manufacturer affixed to the exterior of the PC case, or on the bottom
of a laptop.

To recover a lost Product Key:

If it was a retail license and you have proof of purchase:

How to Replace Lost, Broken, or Missing Microsoft Software or Hardware
http://support.microsoft.com/default...B;en-us;326246

If it was an OEM license, you should contact whomever sold you the
OS; although very few manufacturers/vendors keep records of the
Product Keys they've sold, it's worth a try before you have to buy a
new license.

Microsoft does not keep a record of Product Keys when one registers however
you can contact Microsoft and if you can provide proof of purchase they will
provide you with a new product key through Product Support Services (PSS)
http://support.microsoft.com/default...EN-US;CNTACTMS
There may be an nominal fee for doing this.

He reinstalled XP and then got to the screen asking for the product key. It
is too late to use the viewer as he can't boot to the Desktop now.

That being said people who fix computers for a living know that they will
need to enter the product key sooner or later during a Windows XP install
so he should have had that together before he tried the install.

One of my Clients
Hahahahahahah!!
translates as "I have a pirate copy of, and want to install it, please
'give' me any PK# that will work"
If you have a 'clients' pc then you shouldve done the groundwork b4hand.
i.e. looked in registry for PK#, oops sorry giving too much away.........

What the hell is your client doing using Windows XP Home anyway? XP Pro is
better and if you really can't find the product key.. don't be a dumb ass..
just go on Kazaa or any file share program and download the Corp version of
XP Pro... I mean if your going to be a pirate at least don't be douche bag
enough to post a dumb ass question like that when you KNOW you are going to
get flamed... my advice.. get out of the IT industry now. It's idiots like
you that are sucking up all the good IT job's for people like us (people who
know what they are doing and enjoy it) who actually are in it because we
like doing it and not necessarily for the money.

The registration records do not include the Key - only the deduced
Product ID. Provided the drive has not been reformatted and windows can
be loaded, then get the free Aida 32, enterprise edition from
http://www.aida32.hu/aida-download.php?bit=32
which is an excellent general System Info tool, and its Software -
Licenses page will tell you the one used for Windows and ones for
several other items.

Note that if the machine came with XP installed, this will probably give
a key used in producing an original image, then cloned to all machines
they make. So it is not the one for a reinstall. But then the key will
be on a label on the case of the machine

And as a comment I find it extraordinary how many people ignore a clear
printed 'Do not Lose this Number'

It sounds like you are offering stolen goods because I doubt you would give
away something worth about $100.

Also, you quoted a very old post.
Alex has not posted in a long while and I would be concerned if he posted
recently.

That's for sure. As a matter of fact, today is just two days short of the
first anniversary of his death.

Hi , Irene1964
That key that you're talking about, Is only for "your" p-c... "Your copy
of X-P" If you give that out,
Which you are suggesting.....May render your key
worthless.....Becareful................Butch

Irene;
Since the Product Key is affixed to the side of the computer, it is OEM.
You can only give the key to one person and you also need to give them the
computer, Windows XP CD (if applicable) etc or the key is worthless.
Just about anything else and you violate the EULA.

And yes, it is true:
