Miss Tick, have you had a patch of SP2 applied to your b*o*o*b*s? Are you
good at Monica Lewinski position then?

So, you blamed MS for the problems instead of doing what you should have

I hope your boss reads this and fires you on the spot!

Fail to prepare - prepare to fail. You didn't follow the Six Step Plan,
you
just ploughed on in and installed, didn't you?!

1) Defrag the hard drive(s)
2) Run a systemwide virus scan
3) Run a systemwide spyware scan
4) Update all your drivers
5) Update your software
6) Turn off AVP before installation.

Not MS's problem if you have no common sense! Or just no sense, full
stop!

Well, it is Texas. So, YES! lol

IMO the best IT managers are those that will tell Microsoft to shove their sp2 - thus saving themselves, and a lot of their clients/users, the potential for a whole lot of unnecessary headaches.

There is not a single thing in sp2 that a system can't run just fine without. However, there are a LOT of things in sp2 that an increasing number of systems can't live with!!

Texas Tech pulled the plug on sp2 after two or three installs. Maybe you suggest their IT department is in the 'Hardly' category?

If you would read the details of the tool, you would have your answer.
The tool was designed for the group that asked for the tool.
Business users that have lots of computers.

Read about the tool so you can understand before you make more
comments that show otherwise.

Wayne;
"They really do need to test these things properly"
SP-2 was possibly tested more than any other piece of software has in
the past.
Exactly what do you mean by the above statement?
How many windows XP computers in the world?
Now factor in that no two are identical.
How does Microsoft or anyone for that matter test something as big as
a Service Pack on all possible combinations?
Can not be done, impossible.

"I am an IT manager"
Really?
Then SP-2 should have had no surprises to you since your organization
has been testing SP-2 for at least several months to check for
compatibility issues.

"I am now thinking of not even bothering as it is more bother than it
is worth."
Fine, it is your computer.
But you make it sound like you are punishing Microsoft.
How is that?

"...that they may have non micro$oft software aswell on their
machine."
Nothing wrong with non Microsoft software as long as it is well
written.
For years software has been written taking advantage of what are now
vulnerabilities.
Microsoft has taken a big step and followed the demands of the IT
community to make Windows more secure.

Did you at least have a clean computer?
Was the computer ready for Windows XP?
Since your rant gave no details, it is impossible to know.
