Default Accessing Linux WinShare Folder from Win7

I had a super Win7 64bit desktop custom built for me.

With my old (now dead) WinXP desktop I had no problem accessing
WinShare folder on my Ubuntu (Linux) laptop.

With Win7 it's a different story. [Network] does no function like
WinXP. It does SEE my new Ubuntu laptop, but ONLY list "Public" items
BUT NOT the WinShare folder.

I can use IE11 and enter the \\(IP)\WinShare and it will open
eventually, but it's much slower than with WinXP.

Anyone do better?
