Default Screen resolution

Doubtful, the resolution settings are calibrated to the
particular monitor. Even replacement LCD screens have to
be matched to the corresponding signals.

Not sure about CRT monitors, but you definitely can't go
outside the parameters for LCD screens. They'll screw
the start-up of the computer.

Is there any program that I can download for free to
create my own screen resolutions?

Default Screen resolution

I have a spare monitor to use on a spare computer. It is
a small 13". I use XP, and would like to maximize the
amount of area on the screen as much as possible. The
monitor works with up to 720x576, but the computer only
shows 640x480 or 800x600. The problem isn't the video
card. I know it is the old monitor that was manufactured
back in '92. Every computer has the same issue with this
monitor except for my primary computer that shows
720x576. I know the best solution is to get a different
monitor... I have a KVM switch on the way for Christmas,
so I won't have issues with it much longer... I can use
my primary monitor, keyboard, and mouse. However, I will
still be using this monitor on some occasions.

Maybe if you tell us *why* you want to do this, we could

give you some
better, alternate ideas of accomplishing what you want.

For instance,
if you can't get better than 640x480, there's something

wrong with your
video card - drivers or hardware.
